This ultimately boosts confidence and enhances overall well-being. In this project, there was a strong fucus on the fashionable integration of electronics into the design of the outer garment. Together with Secil Ugur, I created three prototypes: a holster, a necklace, and a brooch, that measure the emotional arousal from the human body and communicate it through movement patterns in the wearables. For example, in of the necklace, when stress is rising, the necklace crawls up toward the wearer’s neck, and affords the wearer to pull it loose again. This interaction helps releave stress. Several studies were conducted to understand how on-body dynamic garments communicate with the wearers surroundings. It is specialized hand work, and as a climber myself, I could relate to the requirements for athletic performance gained by a well-crafted shoe. The process of resoling climbing shoes begins by removing the worn soles. If needed, the leather inner shoe is repaired by sewing it back together. This is followed by sole and rand patternmaking, cutting and sanding rubber in the exact shape for application, prepairing and glueing the rubber, and finish-sanding the new soles into the right shape for performace climbing. In collaboration with fashion designer Karin Vlug, I developed a production method for personalized fashion items aimed at reducing overproduction and minimizing the amount of hand work in the fashion system. In this process, the garment design is adjusted to the wearers exact size using a 3D bodyscan. The asignment was to design a wearable interaction between the garment and the wearer. One of the outcomes is ‘neurotic control’ by student Debbie van Dam.
